The business community of Orillia and area prides itself on being passionate, inviting and collaborative. There are a number of business associations in Orillia and the surrounding area that provide networking opportunities and membership benefits. 

Business Licences

Business licences are required to operate certain types of businesses in Orillia. Visit the Business Licence page to learn more and create an account to get started.

Grand Openings and Events

The Mayor appreciates the opportunity to attend official business openings, ribbon cuttings, and business celebrations to present a Certificate and to bring well wishes on behalf of the City. Contact the Office of the Mayor to learn more.

Patio Program

The process for obtaining a patio permit differs depending on the patio usage.

Sidewalk Patio

Businesses must obtain the written permission of the Downtown Orillia BIA and required permits for placement on sidewalk.

Your patio space will require a building permit if it meets either of the following criteria:

1. A wood patio having an area > 10m2 (108 tf2) and does not bear directly on the ground. (if completely bearing on the ground no permit required regardless of patio size).

2. Any patio providing direct access to a building regardless of size or height

If you would like to install patio space on a City sidewalk for use between May 1 - October 1, please submit the filled Sidewalk Patio Application form to bkhattra@orillia.ca.

Temporary Patio Extension

The Government of Ontario's framework for temporary outdoor physical extensions (temporary patios), states that licensees must get approval from their local municipality and must notify the AGCO of approval, confirm the duration of approval and any conditions on the approval. 

If you would like to apply for a temporary patio extension, please submit the filled Temporary Patio Extension form to edd@orillia.ca.

New Business Liquor 

Business/property owners who currently do not have a liquor license and are interested in obtaining a liquor license for the outdoor patio will require license approval from the AGCO. 

This is a separate process to be undertaken by the applicant before applying for a sidewalk patio or temporary patio extension.
